When does evening rush hour really start on the London Underground?

I'll be getting the train to Euston and then getting the tube to Heathrow (on a weekday). Ideally (in terms of the time I want to get to Heathrow), I'd get the train that gets into Euston just before 5 but I know I'd then end up getting the tube in the rush hour which I want to avoid (especially as I'll have luggage). I was thinking of getting an earlier train that would get me into Euston just after 4, hoping that I'd miss the worst of the rush hour. However, I've noticed that Transport for London classes 4 pm onwards as 'peak time' (I'm not bothered about paying a slightly higher fare - just about how packed the tube will be). Does rush hour in London start from 4 or should I be okay as long as I'm out of central London before 5 pm?

Rush hours in London vary. When the schools are on, the afternoon Rush starts from about 3.30 to 4pm and goes on until about 7.30 to 8pm. During the holiday periods this evening rush can be delayed slightly until about 4.30pm to 8pm.

The word 'hour' in the context of rush hour here in London is a misnomer. It's rush hours and right from day one, the London tube has always been packed full.
