How to Get Your Wedding Dress to Your Wedding in Italy

You have decided to have your wedding in Italy. Everything seems perfect. You have chosen a stunning place to have your destination wedding in Italy. Now, all you need to do is pack and get to Italy.

You have found the perfect dress for your Italian wedding. Then the thought crosses your mind, "How am I going to get my wedding dress to my wedding in Italy?". How to get a wedding dress to a wedding in Italy is often an afterthought that many brides stress about. But the reality is that you only really have three options.

Option 1: Shipping Your Wedding Dress

Couples often ask if they can ship their wedding attire for their wedding in Italy so they do not have to carry it over. In theory this sounds like the best option.

You carefully pack your wedding dress in a box, chose a reputable shipping agent like FedEx or DHL and send your package well in advance of your wedding in Italy. You even call the hotel ahead of time so they know that the package is coming and to hold it in a safe place. Here are the things you must consider before you decide to ship your dress to your wedding in Italy:

First of all, regular parcels often do get lost so it is possible for your wedding dress to get lost as well.
Customs officials in Italy could request a high customs fee for the package.
Many brides have reported their dresses arriving late, damaged or not at all! What would you do for your wedding in Italy if this happened to you?

Option 2: Packing Your Wedding Dress in Checked Luggage

Maybe you have a large suitcase or even a hard-shell garment bag that you plan to pack your prized wedding dress in. Again, sounds like a great idea. You will not have to carry it and after all once you arrive for your wedding in Italy the hotel can always steam any wrinkles. However, here are a few things to consider:

Traveling abroad to your wedding in Italy will often requires multiple legs of flight and plane changes. Many times these plane changes do not offer enough time for checked luggage to be transferred which could lead to your luggage being lost or delayed.

Option 3: Carrying Your Wedding Dress on the Plane

The only downside to this option is that you have to carry your dress through security, through the terminal and onto the plane. Flight attendants are not required to store your wedding dress in their closet, however they are almost always accommodating to a blushing bride! If you are kind and ask them nicely they will most likely be more than happy to store your wedding dress which will ensure that it arrives safely to your wedding in Italy.
