Question about TSA approved luggage straps with Lock...?

I get the security behind the concept of a luggage strap, but as my husband pointed out last night...what about the zipper? It can still be opened when the luggage strap is on....
Should I just skip the locked luggage strap and buy a TSA approved lock for the zippers instead?? Thanks!

Your husband is absolutely correct. The strap is useful for holding the bag closed in the event the zipper fails, but is useless as a security device. The TSA-approved lock is definitely the better option - you can leave your bag locked when you check it in, and if TSA needs to open the bag, they'll be able to use their master keys and re-lock it when they're done.
