When your flight has a layover - how does that work? This is the 1st time I've had to deal with a layover!!
I've flown once before, but it was a non-stop flight both ways. This time, the only choice I have is to have a layover on the way to my destination (in Charolette, NC for about 90 minutes). I guess my question is this: when I get off the plane at Charolette for my layover, do I need to go anywhere to check in for the 2nd part of the trip? I'm assuming I have to go the check-in counter, that only makes sense, right? Do I need to get my bags, or will they be taken care of? Is there any way to make sure that my bags did get on the plane, so I won't have to deal with lost luggage?
I would rather not ask someone there because I don't want it to sound like I don't know what I'm doing. Silly, I know.
First of all, don't feel silly about asking when you get to the airport. Anyone there will be more than willing to help you out and trust me, they have heard much "sillier" questions
With a layover, there really is nothing special you need to do. The airline will transfer your luggage from your first flight to your second flight. There is nothing you need to do. If you have any carry-on bags you do need to take care of those yourself.
You may consider looking up a map of the airport to see approximately how far you need to go to get to your next flight. 90 minutes is plenty of time to get there, but it is always a good idea to know ahead of time. If you have a delayed flight coming, it can make the layover more difficult and the airlines doesn't have to wait for you to arrive from your other flight. So, if you are delayed, you may have to run!
Once you get off the plane you need to head to your next terminal. Once you get there you can talk to the person at the desk and let them know you are there. Then, you are free to do whatever you want. There are usually little stores and restaurants you can go to while waiting. Just be sure to watch the time so you don't miss the flight, that can be a mess. Also, if you can, avoid going outside of the airport or past security. Once you leave that area you will have to go back through security, and with 90 minutes it will take up a lot of your time.
Don't worry about the layover, there really isn't that much you need to do. Everything will go just fine!
Have a great trip!
