Cebu Tourist Spots....need HeLp???
we are stayin at NS Pension House in Cebu City this coming March...on our 1st day we plan to visit the tourist spots as soon as we check in our luggage ...we decided not to hire tour guides, cause everyone said that its easy to find the tourist spots and the Cebuanos are willing help to tell us the direction...
can u suggest us where should we go 1st or what sould be our itinerary??so that the whole day would not be wasted...cause the following day we plan to visit Bohol for a 1day tour...and on our last day we plan to buy pasalubong and visit malls...can u suggest where can we buy those special pasalubongs (many people suggest to buy in SM but we are thinking is there any known place for this like a Popular Pasalubong Stalls or Shops...maybe in public market??is that possible...)
please suggest base on your experience in Cebu...and also be specific about the details...thank you (",) and Have a Good Day....
and also one more thing we're also Pinoy's...Manilenyos (",)
Hi! I'm from Cebu and I suggest you have a tour guide with you if you don't have friends or relatives to be your tour guide and for reasons like
1.convenience (transportation)
2. safety
3 .to save time
4. and to make the most out of it.
Tour guides here are really not that expensive and there are a lot of packages to choose from. Yes it's easy to find the tourist spots here in Cebu but taking the taxi would be costly and can also be a bit of a problem. Also if you are planning to go to the downtown area like Colon Street, Sto. Nino or Fort San Pedro don't wear jewelries, don't show your cellphone, digicams in public and beware of pickpockets, snatchers in the streets and when riding jeepnies. It's really safe when you take the taxi. If you want to take pictures (esp. in Colon, Carbon and Sto. Niño), hide your camera right away after taking shots and place it in your bags.
Some of Cebu tourist spots
(North - Cebu City)
*Taoist Temple
*Basilica Minore del Santo Niño
*Magellan's Cross (just outside Sto Niño)
*Fort San Pedro
*Heritage of Cebu Monument
*Casa Gorordo
*Cebu Tops - where you can see the view of Cebu especially at night
(Lapu-lapu city)
*Lapu-lapu monument and Mactan Shrine
*Nuestra Señora De La Regla Church
*Guitar Making Factory
*Beach Resorts
Far far far far North hehehe.. Malapascua Island and Bantayan Island (see map of Cebu)
(South)<--trip to the south is long and buses or v-hires are the means of transportation but it will take like a day and there's not much to see unless you go island hopping (Badian Island, Pescador Island)
*Old Churches in Cebu
*Marian Monks/Simala in Sibonga
*Kawasan Falls -far south takes hours to travel
*Moalboal beaches
Major shopping centers here are SM City Cebu and Ayala Center Cebu (both have just expanded their malls)
For pasalubongs I suggest SM City Cebu because they have a section at the DEPARTMENT STORE (yes it's not the grocery store) where you can buy delicious Cebu delicacies like Otap (Shamrock), dried mangoes, turrones de mani, piaya, rosquillos (Conching's), etc. There is also a store in SM where you can buy Cebu souvenirs like t-shirts, bags, slippers - it's called Cebu Island Souvenir shop.
I don't suggest going to Carbon market (again unless you have a relative or friend who will accompany you - trust me it's not safe to go there nowadays especially if you're not from Cebu). Taxis are also hard to find in Colon and Carbon. In Colon you should always follow traffic rules when crossing the street. The streets in Colon have a lot of traffic enforcers (CITOM) and some are very strict about jaywalking. There are also more jeepnies than private transportations and taxis there too (Jeepney -P6.00 minumum fare; Taxi - P35.00 starting fee and P2.50 every 300 meters thereafter I guess.) Some taxi drivers will not use meter rate but instead ask for an amount that will be agreed both by you and the taxi driver especially if you will go to far away places in Cebu. Be careful with those taxi drivers who will take advantage particularly if they see you as a newbie in Cebu. Always prepare some small amount of bills like 100, 50, 20, and some coins for your transportation fare because there are abusive taxi drivers who will pretend that they don’t have any change for hoping that they will have to keep it. You can also give him a tip like 10 pesos if you want.
The nearest department store to where you are staying (NS Pension House) is Robinson's Place Cebu (there is a food court at the ground floor, tables are mostly occupied at lunch time) Other places to eat at the Uptown Area near Fuente Rotunda -- McDonalds, Jollibee, Pizza Hut, Shakey's, Greenwich Pizza, Ice Castle, Yellow Cab Pizza, Bo's Coffee, Starbucks, Da Vinci's Pizza to name a few is just a walking distance at Robinson's.
A place to eat at SM? Golden Cowrie is one of the favorite restaurants. But you can also try CNT lechon (my favorite lechon) it's also a Cebuano favorite just across SM.
I hope you'll enjoy your stay here in Cebu - the Queen City of the South! Good luck!!! Have a safe trip soon....
