A cross country road trip with bikes?

My co-workers and I have been discussing a cross country roadtrip for a while. I think perhaps our excitement is overloading the practicality of it though. What we were planning was a roadtrip with 4 motorcycles. The problem is, we all have supersport bikes...no real luggage hooks...also riding for long distance, isn't that comfortable, so doing 6 hours a day is probably the max. So basically, whatever we carry will have to fit in a backpack. We're all basically excited at the prospect of stopping at random places.

So is is feasible, and would it be fun to do a cross country motorcycle roadtrip with supersport bikes, carryiing only what we need on our backpacks?

Go for it. You will have fun. I think that your assessment that you will be able to do 6 hours of riding a day is accurate. When you are riding alone, you can probably run a lot further, but when you are on sport bikes and with 3 others, you will be stopping more often. It's pretty rare you can get all four people on the same bathroom break schedule.

A light back pack makes some sense, but they make tank bags, saddle bags and tail/seat bags for motorcycles. This will help your fatigue factor and allow you to carry more stuff.

6 hours of riding a day is about 100 to 300 miles per day depending on where you are and the speed limits. A ten day trip will get you up to 3000 miles. Plan accordingly.

A sport bike wouldn't be my first choice on a trip like this, but it's a motorcycle and it will be fun.
