extra seat for vintage motor bike????

this has just come into my possesion. I do not have a clue about motor bikes. I have been told, this is an optional extra seat.( for a passanger) It is a single seat that looks like it clips onto the luggage rack or somewhere. It has a wooden handle for the passanger to hold onto. Can anyone please help me?? How old is this seat and what bike would it be made to fit, and would it be worth anything to sell.

It would be of value to a collecter if you can identify which exact model it was made for. There used to be a type of add-on seat called a "pillion" seat. This seat mounted directly to the rear fender. Seats of this type were usually found on older British bikes like Norton, BSA, Triumph, Brough Superior, etc.
